Style Report: What people wore to Anderson .Paak at the Bowl

Looks from a legendary show

Concerts bring out some of our most inspired looks. I’m usually more willing to embrace a whim or have a little more fun with my outfit when going to a show (especially at the Bowl!).

I was uniquely excited to get dressed for Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals last week, and to see what everyone else was wearing for the sold out occasion.

Eclecticism abounded(!), in a way only Anderson .Paak could inspire. Here are a few looks from that night, and a mantra the show left us with: Stay wavy, baby~

Erika

Akoia makes beautiful woven tops, like the Uni. / Of course the pants took me straight to these Homme Plisse. / Etsy is a treasure trove for so much, including these fuzzy faux fur hats. CLYDE does amazing hats, too. / The lug on her Doc Martens reminded me of these and these from Paracia.

According to Erika, the SB Bowl staff agreed to dress in groovy garb for the show, and she definitely hit the mark! She’s wearing a fuzzy thrift store hat (I need!!!), a Zara top, some ruffle pants from Hawaii, and some classic Doc Martens. She wanted to wear something projecting “fun, upbeat, sassy, Anderson .Paak-look-at-me” vibes. Indeed!

Olivia and Leslie

Olivia’s plaid blazer immediately made me think Vivienne Westwood. (You can find some good VW stuff on Poshmark or DePop, too.) / Cabi has lots of great pant options. / Same with Lovestitch re: sweaters. / The Gucci boots took me straight to these from Jacques Solovière. (Here’s a low-top option.)

Leslie’s (amazing) Gucci boots caught my attention right away. She (right) was wearing a black sweater from Lovestitch over her white top and Cabi pants. I should’ve asked for the deets on her bag, too…Olivia (left) wore an Anthropologie blazer, a Lukas Nelson t-shirt, and vintage Bruno Magli shoes.

Nicole and Reuben

You know I love Michael Stars. Here’s one of their 3/4 sleeve tops. / Look for similar camo pants on DePop by typing “camo cargo pants.” / You can currently get $15 off your first order from Dr. Martens. / Plenty of fun camp shirts at Pacsun / Black Dickies are also a great DePop find.

Look at those smiles! Nicole was giving Kim Possible (her words, not mine ;)) in a black quarter-sleeve top, camo pants she got in Nashville, a necklace purchased locally at the Cabrillo Arts & Craft show, and a bracelet from this year’s Pride festival. She got her fanny pack at a clothing swap. Reuben wore a a blue wavy top from PacSun on State street, black Dickies, a sterling silver Vans necklace, hoop earrings, and some black Vans.

Yuna

Okay but this black Jake and Jones ball cap would work great here! / I was reminded of this twill trench coat by The Frankie Shop. And — have you seen the Alexa Chung x Madewell collab yet?! The trench is sold out, but could be coming back? / This Bao Bao bag would go great here, too.

Yuna’s look stopped me in my tracks. Amazing! She’s wearing a Santa Muerte jacket and pants she got in Amsterdam when her luggage was lost by the airline, as well as a Marni clutch.

Tabby and Daniel

If you haven’t checked out CLYDE hats yet, do yourself a favor. / I also wear Altras and love the wide toe box on ‘em.

Tabby and Daniel rode to the show on their e-bikes, so they wanted to be comfy and warm. Tabby is wearing a camping hat, a thrifted top and pants, and high-top vans. Daniel is an anime lover, hence the Dragon Ball Z shirt. He’s also wearing Altra Running sneaks and a beanie.

Lauren

Her sweater was giving Rick Owens. Here’s an option on eBay. / Raw Moda has plenty of color and style options for pants. / And Marc Jacobs has all kinds of “The Tote Bag” variants. / The Margiela tabi flats are a great DePop find (in my experience, if you’re a half size you may need to size down.)

Lauren didn’t overthink it — she wore all black like she always does. Here she’s in a soft, loose-fitting sweater, flowy Raw Moda pants, Maison Margiela tabi flats, and The Tote Bag by Marc Jacobs. Her signature haircut and bangs (“At the office they call me Edna mode!”) tops the look off perfectly. Stunning.

Eli and Stephanie

Hit up Favorites on State St. for vintage tees with a similar vibe to Eli’s. / This FLORE FLORE tank is right on target, as well as this Jungmaven one. / These Baserange pants are looser-fitting, but still bring the funk.

Eli and Stephanie kicked their everyday uniforms up a notch for the show. Believe it or not, Eli’s McDonald’s surfer tee is actually one he purchased in Malibu as a teenager. He wore it as a nod to Anderson .Paak’s “Malibu” album, which he was performing that night. Stephanie’s look started with the pants — “They’re kinda funky, very on-brand for Anderson,” she said.

Adrian

This Auralee sweater is almost the exact same shade of purple (and is sooo soft). / This dark blue checked button down (also from H&M) would work well, too. / Nike Air Force 1s are classic for a reason.

Adrian came to the show with his girlfriend. He said he just threw on his outfit without much thought, but the pink H&M button down was his girlfriend’s idea. It looked great paired with his grape purple Acne sweater and bright white Air Force 1s (I’m a sucker for pops of color).

Daniel

Samuel Zelig makes some of my favorite graphic hoodies/crewnecks right now. Try this or this for a cozy brown option sans illustrations. / If skinny selvedge denim is your thing, these are approachable and could work. / Could see these Norse Projects runners fitting the look, too.

The sleeves on Daniel’s brown Ashnikko sweater caught my eye from afar. Super sick. He’s sporting a brand new Free Nationals tote from the merch table, with black jeans and some all-black Old Skool Canvas Vans. His style inspo, in his words: “Neutral.”

Andrea

It’s not the exact color, but Zara has a cute (and affordable) maroon wool/alpaca blend cardigan. / Andrea’s top reminded me of this, this, and this. / These strappy platform sandals from independent brand Melissa match the vibe. Or try a more casual Free People option here.

Andrea’s Y2K-inspired look was apparently a last minute decision, but it certainly delivered elegance! She’s wearing a flirty red/maroon cardigan, dark wash and slightly-flared jeans, and a black wrap shirt borrowed from her mom. (Her mom also lent her the earrings and the red Prada bag — true “I got it from my mama” energy.) The Target wedges stepped up the look without sacrificing comfort, she said.

Shahin

Check out more hats by Nahmias. / An Alex Mill work jacket will do the trick. / For denim, try some black orSlow 107s.

Shah joked he was going for “Mediterranean casual.” He’s wearing a trucker hat by Summerland brand Nahmias, a grey jacket, black jeans, and high-top Vans. The most special bit of his outfit? His pendant necklace of Zoroastrian god Ahura Mazda, given to him at birth by his grandma.

Cami (me) and Cody

Cami: The Elisabeth Romper is a great DePop find. Same thing for button downs. / I saved up for the choker and love it. Its fraternal twin is still available at Jake and Jones. / Comme Si has great socks, but I’d recommend any Egyptian cotton socks. / Who doesn’t love a classic G.H. Bass loafer? / Cody: Favorites on State has hella sweatshirts and jackets right now. / Cody prefers the Painter pant from Alex Mill. He’s also eyeing canvas J. Crew ones and others from Drake’s. / Apparently you can create your own Chuck 70s.

We kept it easy breezy~ I’m wearing a Vanessa Mooney romper, a black button down (shirt-cape style), Comme Si socks, and Jamie Haller loafers (which feel like slippers!). Cody is in navy Alex Mill pants, a vintage Tultex crewneck sweater, a vintage Gap trucker jacket, and mustard low-top Chuck 70s. Funny enough we only got the selfie above to show for it!
